When you’ve just birthed a baby in your own home in Southeast DC while two other little ones squirrel around and you are adjusting to this new wild life with three kids, it seems completely counterintuitive to let someone come in and take pictures. And while Steve and I have known Jules and Alex for a while it was still such a gift to spend time with them in their home in Northeast DC just days after their son was born. They opened their home and their life to me and allowed a glimpse into these exhausting, beautiful, miraculous first days as a family of five.

I first met this family when the news they were expecting was still a secret, but now they are a few short months away from meeting their fourth son! I loved hanging out and experiencing the rowdy, but incredible, energy that little boys bring to a home. This new baby will certainly have some incredible brothers to look up to and keep up with!
We met Nicole and Stephen when they lived in our town. But the problem was they weren’t town people, they were city people. While that was sad news for us, it was great news for Washington, DC. They are rocking small apartment living and city exploration with two littles in tow. If you live in the city, you should hang out with them. They will make you cooler by association. I loved every minute of hanging out with them for an afternoon and making these photographs.
On a drizzly Sunday afternoon I had the privilege of spending time with the Rodriguez family. They celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and new babies but most of all they were just celebrating being together. After the weekend, families would be going home to very different places but they would be able to take these moments with them until they were together again.
This August we drove across the country out to the mountains and back to visit friends and photograph families. We spent the second week of our trip in Colorado where we got to stay with our college friends, the Bissonnettes. Laura and Chris just celebrated 10 years of marriage together! These photos were taken at Daniel’s Park near their home.
Laura and Chris, happy anniversary! Thank you for welcoming us into your home. For good late night conversations, for amazing home brew, for putting up with a bunch of out-of-shape east coasters on hikes, and for letting our kids run wild together through your neighborhood. We miss you all.
