As this past Saturday approached it looked like rain was going to strike again and we had some talks of canceling. I had a feeling though that this was it, and that we were going to finally break the cycle of frustration so we encouraged Yasmeen and Homam to keep the session and the hair and makeup appointments.

It didn’t rain once.

This was unlike any other portrait session we’ve ever done. We were beyond excited to have time with a couple to celebrate their wedding without the stress of the day itself, and all of the time pressures that go with it. The result was something completely unique and perfect. We were able to enter into the celebration of Yasmeen and Homam’s marriage: the joy, the laughter, the tears, and the hope for so many more amazing years to come. It was an awesome experience and we are so thankful that we were invited to be apart of it.

The blog we found belonged to Ashley and Jeremy Parsons.  They were a married couple photography duo from my mother’s home town of Kansas City.   They made fantastic images and qualified for our elite RSS Feed rotation.  They were as cool as anybody else making fantastic images as far as we were concerned, but then one day they made something that we had never seen before.  They made THIS slideshow, and it redefined what Bernadette and I thought could be possible with what we were doing with An Endless Pursuit.  Shortly after we read this post by them, and decided that these were people we HAD to meet.  Please stop reading until you click on the previous two links, and then we will continue…

I sent an email to Ashley and Jeremy right after Thanksgiving that I wanted to surprise Bernadette for Christmas by taking her to the Don’t Give Up Project, which is a workshop they put on in Colorado every summer for photographers.  It seemed like an amazing plan until Bernadette told me about another amazing plan that she was pregnant with our second child!  I emailed Ashley and Jeremy back to tell them I was bummed that we wouldn’t be able to go, and they wrote back that they were thinking of doing a smaller workshop just for married couples at their home in February.  I didn’t know the details, the workshop hadn’t been announced, and I sent them a deposit an hour later.  We were in!

Thank you to our amazing new friends, Ashley and Jeremy, Jen and Brad, Heidi and Kevin, and Kelly and Ray.  We had a blast getting to know each of you and we cannot wait until we meet again.

What happened last week was nothing short of unbelievable from playing Dance Central 2, to eating amazing meals, to incredible talks, to drinking gallons of tasty coffee, to staying up until three in the morning dissecting our business. We made eight new friends.  We were rekindled with a new appreciation for the role of our business within our marriage.  We were inspired as artists.

We flew back to DC on Wednesday night in love with life.  We have so much left to share; so many stories to tell.

We’re so pleased to introduce the world to Henry Burtin! We photographed his older brother, Benjamin, in 2010, and it was great to go back and see this awesome growing family one year later. Mandy spent the last few months of the pregnancy with Henry in the hospital, but thankfully everything went very smoothly and Mandy and Henry both came home from the hospital healthy and safely. It’s so amazing to see how the joy of new life overshadows everything else. Spending a few hours in the Bertin home showed no signs of those recent difficult months in the hospital. I think it’s safe to say that everything pales in comparison to loving a new baby. Where there is joy there is no room for anything less.
